Eddie is an ABC (American Born Chinese) who spends his free-time staring at the computer screen. Fresh off the streets of Walnut California, Eddie grew up on video games, swimming, and guitar music. He likes hiking, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, and cooking. Eddie recently started his own indie-game studio called, Funktronic Labs!
Robyn is a fourth-generation Japanese-American who grew up hula dancing, running, and being a die-hard Bruin fan. Straight out of the sunny streets of Torrance California, Robyn has a passion for education, running by the beach, and most recently Zumba. She loves teaching elementary school students!
It was year 2007, Eddie just accepted a job as a programmer at UCLA's ATS (Academic Technology Services). Robyn, who worked at the ATS front desk, was tasked with showing the newbie Eddie the workplace. It was that day where they first met. A few days after meeting, Eddie asked Robyn out, unbeknownst that both their lives will be forever changed..
Their first date was in Westwood California, a walkable college town south of UCLA. Their first meal together was at Novel Cafe, where Eddie tried to impress Robyn by ordering pasta and Robyn tried to be ladylike by ordering a chinese chicken salad. They enjoyed sipping on some sweet strawberry lemonade as they engaged in lovely conversation and laughter.
Their journey together has always been exciting. They've hiked the mountains of HuangShang in China, sun-bathed on the beaches of Hawaii, relaxed at the SoPoong Guesthouse in Korea, and even rang in the New Years at Taipei 101 in Taiwan. Despite being in a long-distance relationship while they both were pursuing their graduate degrees in different states, they have remained strong.
Hands down, their greatest experience together was when they were living together in Kyoto, Japan. They lived in a humble abode next to a rice paddy field and enjoyed the healhty lifestyle of cycling, walking, and riding the train. They met lifelong friends, attended the Awa-Dori festival in Tokushima, observed snow monkeys in Nagano, and swam at the beaches of Okinawa, and much more!
On April 13, 2013, Eddie convinced Robyn to go on nice noontime hike and picnic in the bamboo forest of Kyoto, Japan. They biked there, parked at the base of the mountain, and began their upward hike. Eddie told Robyn about the amazing city view that awaited her at the top of the mountain and blindfolded her to surprise her.
Little did Robyn know that at the top of the mountain awaited a half-dozen of her best friends who flew to Kyoto from as far as Los Angeles, San Diego, Osaka, and even Korea! When the blindfolds came off, Robyn gasped emphantically as she was so surpised from seeing so many unexpected friends together. Eddie then dropped down on bended knee and dropped the big "Q" which was followed by an ecstatic, "YES!" by Robyn.
